Local Sponsored Federal Project Timeline
Construction projects can complete the ADOT administered federal design and clearance process in 18 to 24 months. The chart below is for a user to get an approximate schedule for their project once the initial start date is entered. Use the pull-down menus to select your start dates, then click "Change Dates."
Anticipated Milestones
The following project milestones are based on a typical project procurement process. Some projects may follow abbreviated process. Please indicate (yes/no) the applicable milestones.
To obligate a federally funded project, the project sponsor must have a bid ready project and a complete set of clearances – environmental, right-of-way and utilities. As the federal fiscal year effectively ends in mid September, sponsors of construction projects should meet these two milestones to reach obligation for that current federal fiscal year:
- By March 1, the process to obtain an environmental clearance should be substantially completed with all technical documents submitted to ADOT in near or final form.
- By August 1, all three clearances are to be obtained and the plans, specifications and estimates package to be submitted to ADOT. If you do not meet these milestones, click here to learn about the MAG Deferral and Close-Out Process. PLEASE LINK TO TIP WEBPAGE
FY08 MAG Federally Funded Projects
- August 2006: Local agencies should have started the design process, if not, please contact ADOT Local Governments and begin the process immediately.
FY09 MAG Federally Funded Projects
- August 2007: Local agencies should start the ADOT process. If a project starts the process in August 2007, the project will be completed by August 2009 and meet the August 1st milestone.
